Anti-drugs Campaigner and Founder of Maxie Richards Foundation Passes Away

The motion

That the Parliament marks the sad death of former Glasgow Times Scotswoman of the Year, and recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Centre for Social Justice in London, Maxie Richards, of Bearsden; considers that the retired headteacher dedicated her life to public service and addiction recovery through the founding of the Maxie Richards Foundation and Kings Court residential drug rehabilitation centre in Tighnabruaich; understands that Maxie was an extraordinary woman, who gave people education, life skills and love; acknowledges that she lived a life of service and will be missed greatly by those whose lives she improved; understands that her vision was deeply rooted in her Christian faith, and that she campaigned long and hard for change and for resources to support rehabilitation of substance abusers, and considers that her compassion was rooted in a fundamental belief in the value of people.
