The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Isle of Arran Music School (IOAMS) on its success at the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championship held at Kilmarnock’s William McIlvanney Campus on 9 March 2025; is aware that the championship, which is organised by the Scottish Schools Pipes and Drums Trust, saw 94 bands from 144 schools compete across eight categories, showcasing both traditional and contemporary performances; acknowledges that IOAMS’ Performance Band, which is made up of a range of pupils from primary school to S4, came out on top in the Junior C category; understands that they impressed the packed auditorium with their rendition of Mhairi's Wedding, under the guidance of Pipe Major Scott Figgins, with assistance from the drum tutor, Thomas Barnes; recognises that over a fifth of Arran High School pupils took part in the championship this year, which is by far the greatest number of participants ever, and wishes Andrew Dickie, faculty leader of music at Arran Academy, and everyone involved in IOAMS, continued success in their future endeavours.
