Financial Help Given to Improve Mental Health and Wellbeing in Dumfries and Galloway

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the 41 community projects across Dumfries and Galloway that are sharing £440,157 to help improve people's mental health and wellbeing; notes that the money comes from the Scottish Government’s Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing fund and will be administered by Third Sector Dumfries and Galloway; recognises that the local priorities were suicide prevention, dealing with social isolation and loneliness and reducing poverty and inequality, with a particular emphasis on responding to the cost-of-living crisis and support for people facing socio-economic disadvantage; understands that these latest awards take the total investment in the area's organisations to just over £2.6 million; acknowledges that these include Animals Supporting People at FRED, for its animal therapy project, the Newton Stewart Initiative, for its reminiscence group for over 60s in the area, Happy Daze, which helps its members connect with young people, the Solway Disability Support, which has been awarded nearly £8,000 to provide opportunities for people with learning disabilities to attend disability sports clubs, including football, swimming, badminton and curling clubs, Propagate’s Dumfries and Galloway Community Food Network, which will be strengthened by an award of £9,950 and Isle Future, to expand its Isle Buddies project on the Isle of Whithorn, which offers transport for community meetups, arts and crafts, workshops and a men’s social group, and to enhance its café for bereavement and support, and wishes all recipients of these awards continued success in the near future.
