The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the city of Edinburgh as it celebrates the 30th anniversary of its Old and New Towns being awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO; acknowledges the efforts and vital role played by Edinburgh World Heritage, Historic Environment Scotland, The City of Edinburgh Council and all other partners invested in protecting and preserving the World Heritage Site for the benefit of future generations; believes that Edinburgh World Heritage and indeed all of Scotland’s seven City Heritage Trusts undertake vital work, which should be supported through sustainable long-term funding; recognises what it sees as the many challenges currently faced by these organisations, especially the climate crisis, which, it believes, poses multiple threats to historic buildings, and supports collaborative efforts across government and public authorities at all levels to protect and strengthen Scotland’s historic environment.
