Celebrating Glasgow’s Culinary Heritage with Taste the Place

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the launch of Taste the Place on 2 April 2025, a new initiative celebrating Glasgow’s rich culinary heritage as part of the city’s 850th anniversary; recognises that this collaboration between Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and Glasgow 850 offers a free, self-guided food experience, highlighting over 40 eateries representing 23 cuisines across the city; commends the initiative for showcasing both long-established institutions and innovative newcomers, from historic ice cream parlours and traditional sweet shops to vibrant international street food vendors; acknowledges what it sees as the positive impact of Taste the Place in supporting local businesses, strengthening Glasgow’s reputation as a top-tier food destination, and fostering cultural appreciation through cuisine; welcomes the initiative’s themed routes, Taste the World, Taste through Time, and Taste for Good, which highlight Glasgow’s global food culture, historic venues, and community-driven eateries; notes that this celebration follows Glasgow’s hosting of the 2025 Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland launch ceremony, cementing, it believes, the city’s status as a culinary leader, and encourages residents and visitors alike to explore and support Glasgow’s outstanding hospitality sector throughout 2025.
