Protecting Scottish Trade from US Tariff Threats

The motion

That the Parliament notes with concern reports of impending tariff increases on UK exports to the US, which, it believes, pose a significant risk to key sectors of the Scottish economy, including whisky, automotive, manufacturing and food; recognises what it sees as the vital importance of the US market to exporters from Scotland, and the potential economic damage that such tariffs could cause to jobs, investment and supply chains; notes the uncertainty caused by what it sees as rising global protectionism, and calls on the Scottish Government to work constructively with the UK Government, and closely engage with affected businesses and industry groups in Scotland, to develop a coordinated strategy to mitigate the impact of any new US trade barriers, defend Scotland’s economic interests, and ensure Scottish exporters are fully supported in responding to this challenge.
