Gorbals Locals to be Among the First to Experience the Revamped Citizens Theatre

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow on the completion of its extensive refurbishment and welcomes the announcement that the people of the Gorbals will be among the first to experience the revamped venue, with a new Gorbals Pass offering £5 tickets to residents with a G5 postcode; commends the theatre's commitment to the local community, and to ensuring accessibility for all; notes the significant improvements made during the refurbishment, including an expanded foyer, a new 150-seat studio theatre, improved backstage facilities and better sightlines in the main auditorium; celebrates the announcement of the upcoming homecoming festival in August 2025, which will feature readings, exhibitions, workshops and tours to celebrate the theatre’s history and its reintegration into the Gorbals community, and looks forward to the premiere of Small Acts of Love, a new production by playwright, Frances Poet, and composer, Ricky Ross, marking the official reopening of the theatre in September 2025.
