The motion

That the Parliament extends its warmest wishes to Sikhs in Scotland, the UK, and across the world, for Vaisakhi 2025, which will be celebrated on 13 April 2025; understands that vibrant festivities are set to take place in Gurdwaras throughout Scotland, which will be accompanied by flag-raising ceremonies; appreciates the dedication of all those involved in the Nagar Kirtan processions; acknowledges what it sees as the profound contribution of Sikhi, and that of the Khalsa order, created by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1699; welcomes the teachings and the sacred tradition of "langar" (community kitchen) provided by Gurdwaras year-round; understands that dedicated volunteers serve hot meals to individuals, regardless of their background, championing community spirit and compassion, providing essential support to those in need and building bridges to foster a sense of unity, and further understands that Vaisakhi is a time to recognise the core values at the heart of Sikhism, which are equality, community, generosity, honesty and "seva" (selfless service to others), and to create positive harmony and rejoice in the spirit of harmony and devotion.
