The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, on the official opening of BAE Systems’ £12 million Applied Shipbuilding Academy at Scotstoun, Glasgow; acknowledges what it sees as the academy’s pivotal role in modernising BAE Systems’ Clyde operations and in preparing thousands of skilled workers for careers in constructing advanced warships for the Royal Navy; believes that the state-of-the-art facility, which spans 5,500 square metres and has over 30 teaching zones, a science and engineering innovation space, and a high-spec trade hall complete with mock-up ship compartments, is a crucial investment in the future of Scottish shipbuilding; notes what it sees as the impressive achievement of nearly 300 apprentices and graduates since its opening in September 2024, alongside the launch of additional immersive training courses in welding, fabrication, electrical systems, and related disciplines, and considers that this new academy, as part of a wider £300 million investment across Glasgow’s shipyards, reinforces Scotland’s proud maritime tradition and fortifies national defence capabilities, while supporting international partners.
