Commemorating the Late Sir Tom Farmer and his Contribution to Scotland

The motion

That the Parliament is saddened by the passing of the late Sir Tom Farmer on 9 May 2025 at the age of 84; acknowledges what it sees as his vast contribution to the automotive industry as the founder of the world’s biggest tyre and car service provider, Kwik Fit, which was founded in 1971 and has over 2,000 locations in 18 countries; commemorates his knighthood, as well as the award of Knight Commander with Star of the Order of St Gregory the Great, gifted by the Pope in 1997, alongside the awarding of the Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 2009, and the Carnegie Medal for philanthropy for such work as the Farmer Foundation, which provides support for local communities home and abroad in the aim of developing self-sufficient community and personal development; appreciates his contribution to public health by chairing the Scotland Against Drugs campaign, and his use of charity by opening up his Kwik Fit shops to receive public aid to help victims of the Kosovo war, and values what it sees as his substantial impact both on the city of Edinburgh and Scotland.
