The Gralloch 2025 Attracts Huge Numbers to Galloway Forest Park

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the organisers of The Gralloch 2025, one of the biggest gravel races in the world, which attracted 3,000 riders from across the globe from 35 nations; notes that, almost entirely off-road, riders tackled around 111km across the hills of the Galloway Forest Park in the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere on some of the best gravel in the UK at Gatehouse of Fleet on 17 May 2025; further notes that the race was watched by a similar number of fans, families and members of the public to witness this incredible celebration of gravel riding, a test of determination, skill and endurance against some of the most challenging conditions; understands that the event is Britain’s first UCI Gravel World Series event and represents a serious challenge to racers to conquer a demanding off-road course on some of the finest gravel tracks in the UK; notes that the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is cycling’s world governing body, and that its Gravel World Series is the highest level series of events in the world; understands that the ambition is for the Series to attract all, from professional elite riders, through to older competitive riders, and to those who just want to finish; recognises that, based on the UCI’s Gran Fondo series, the Gralloch provides a qualification pathway to the Gravel World Championships in September 2024; believes that the Gralloch is more than just a race but a gravel festival, welcoming all riders to experience the thrill of the growing sport, whether chasing victory or tackling the challenge at their own pace in the non-competitive Sportive; understands that the weekend was packed with shakeout rides, live music, an expo, great food and drink, camping and an electrifying village event that created an unforgettable atmosphere for riders and supporters alike, and wishes the gravel event continued success as it moves around the country to the delight of fans and racers.
