Isla Gear's Petition on Early Detection and Pancreatic Cancer UK’s Unite. Diagnose. Save Lives. Campaign

The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges the urgent calls made by Isla Gear in her petition, created in memory of her brother, Thomas PHD Barker, who sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer at only 47 years old due to late-stage diagnosis; supports Isla’s request for targeted pancreatic cancer screening and improved diagnostic tools to help GPs identify symptoms earlier; believes that pancreatic cancer is often diagnosed too late for effective treatment, giving patients and families little hope; supports Pancreatic Cancer UK’s "Unite. Diagnose. Save Lives." campaign, urging the Scottish Government to roll-out regular monitoring for those at highest risk, invest in innovative tests for early detection, invest at least £35 million annually for the next 20 years in pancreatic cancer research, and prioritise pancreatic cancer within the next Cancer Action Plan of the Scottish Cancer Strategy, and urges the Scottish Government to meet with Pancreatic Cancer UK to discuss implementation plans and timelines for these actions.
