Supporting the Work of My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and the Success of Doddie Aid 2025
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the continued, inspirational work of My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, established in 2017 by the late, great Doddie Weir OBE, in raising vital funds and awareness for motor neuron disease (MND) research; congratulates the Foundation on its recent Working for a World Free of MND reception in the Garden Lobby, sponsored by Rachael Hamilton MSP, which brought together MSPs, supporters, and researchers to mark progress made and renew collective commitment to beating MND; celebrates the extraordinary success of Doddie Aid 2025, which saw thousands of participants walk, run, cycle and swim more than one million miles and raise £1.35 million, bringing the Foundation’s total investment in MND research to over £19.5 million; recognises what it sees as the tireless leadership of Rob Wainwright OBE, who led this year’s 800-mile “Doddie’s Grand Tour” from Dublin to Edinburgh, joined by public figures and Doddie’s family and friends; notes that since its launch in 2021, Doddie Aid has involved over 100,000 people and raised more than £6 million; praises the Foundation’s mission to fund pioneering MND research and provide practical support to individuals living with the condition, and commends all involved for honouring Doddie’s legacy with such powerful action, ambition, and determination.
