The motion

That the Parliament notes that Dementia Awareness Week 2025 takes place between 2 and 8 June; understands that every annual Dementia Awareness Week focuses on raising awareness of dementia and improving the lives of people living with dementia, their families and carers; further understands that this year’s event promotes the importance of maintaining friendships and social connections at every step of a person’s dementia progression; believes that staying connected, listening and showing kindness can bring comfort, joy and a sense of belonging to people with dementia; recognises the significant role that friends play in helping to keep memories alive, reduce loneliness and support people with dementia, as well as their carers, friends and family; commends the work of organisations such as Alzheimer Scotland, which, it believes, plays a vital role in supporting those living with dementia, and encourages people across Scotland to engage in events being held in their communities to mark Dementia Awareness Week as part of a collective effort to remove stigma, raise awareness and improve services.
