50th Anniversary of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Comhairle nan Eilean Siar on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; recognises what it sees as the significant role that the council has played since its establishment in 1975 in representing and serving the communities of the Western Isles; acknowledges the unique cultural, linguistic, and geographic heritage of the islands; commends the council for its ongoing efforts to promote economic development, safeguard the Gaelic language, support sustainable communities, and preserve the natural environment; recognises what it sees as the challenges faced by remote and island communities; celebrates the commitment and dedication of past and present councillors and staff in delivering local services, and wishes Comhairle nan Eilean Siar continued success in the years ahead.  The Member has provided the following Gaelic translation:  Gu bheil a’ Phàrlamaid a’ cur meal-a-naidheachd air Comhairle nan Eilean Siar air a 50mh ceann-bliadhna; gu bheil i ag aithneachadh na pàirt cudromaich a bh’ aig a’ chomhairle na beachd bho chaidh a stèidheachadh ann an 1975 ann a bhith a’ riochdachadh agus a’ frithealadh choimhearsnachdan nan Eilean Siar; ag aithneachadh dualchas cultarail, cànanach agus cruinn-eòlasach sònraichte nan eilean, agus gu bheil i a’ moladh na comhairle airson a h-oidhirpean leantainneach gus leasachadh eaconamach a bhrosnachadh, a’ Ghàidhlig a dhìon, taic a chumail ri coimhearsnachdan seasmhach, agus an àrainneachd nàdarra a ghleidheadh; gu bheil i ag aithneachadh nan dùbhlan a tha na beachd mu choinneamh choimhearsnachdan iomallach agus eileanach, agus gu bheil i a’ comharrachadh dealas agus dìcheall chomhairlichean agus luchd-obrach san àm a dh’fhalbh agus san latha an-diugh ann a bhith a’ lìbhrigeadh sheirbheisean ionadail; gu bheil i a’ guidhe soirbheachas leantainneach do Chomhairle nan Eilean Siar sna bliadhnaichean ri teachd.
