The motion

That the Parliament understands that a man from Alva is fundraising in the hope of travelling to Italy to represent his country at powerchair football; congratulates Kieran Steer on being named in the Scotland squad for the Euros, set to take place in September 2025; understands that Kieran, who plays for Lothian Wolves and Newcastle United, is now looking for help to gather £2,000 to help cover costs as he looks to wear the Scotland strip in powerchair; further understands that the competition is being held in Italy and that, as a result of the sport still being in its early stages, the competitors are compelled to fund the trip, including flight, hotel, sustenance and insurance, themselves; notes that Kieran began fundraising to fulfil his opportunity to compete in what he sees as the largest competition this nation has been part of so far; acknowledges that Powerchair Football allows people with a level of impairment to access the game using electric wheelchairs, and that the sport has seen considerable development in recent years with numerous leagues set up across the country; understands that, recently, the England and Spanish national sides travelled to Largs to take on two Scotland teams; notes that Kieran has been selected for the 10-man squad, which was formed in 2018 at Inverclyde National Sports Training Centre, and that he will now hope to play an integral role in the squad at the next Euros; hopes that generous donations will come with urgency, thus allowing him to fulfil his ambition, and wishes Kieran and all his teammates the very best in their sporting endeavours.
