Congratulating the University of Aberdeen on Progressing Towards Opening a Campus in India
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the University of Aberdeen in securing approval from India's University Grants Commission to progress with proposals to open a branch campus in Mumbai; notes that the targeted launch date is September 2026; understands that the University of Aberdeen is the first of the UK’s ancient universities and that it would be the first Scottish university to be granted permission for a branch campus in India; believes that these proposals underpin the University’s commitment to India and its vision of fostering world-class education, cutting-edge research and transformative innovation in collaboration with Indian institutions; understands that the proposed campus would initially offer programmes in computing and data science, business management, economics, artificial intelligence (AI) and an MBA with future expansion into mathematics, international business management, information systems, public health, film studies and psychology, followed by aims of establishing a research and innovation office on the proposed new campus, expansion of research collaborations and industry partnerships in critical areas such as AI, energy, and life sciences, and recognises that education is one of the themes examined by the Scottish Parliament’s Cross-Party Group on India.
