Congratulating Robert Macintyre Finishing Runner-up at the US Open
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Robert Macintyre on finishing runner-up at The US Open at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania; understands that Robert finished on 1 over-par after four rounds in what it believes was a tightly fought contest in the final round, with eventual winner, JJ Spaun, who finished on 1 under-par and third-place finisher, Viktor Hovland, who finished on 2 over-par; notes that Oakmont is believed to be one of the toughest golf courses in the world and that the poor weather on the final day made playing conditions extremely difficult; recognises that Robert Macintyre is the first person from Scotland to finish runner-up in a US Open Championship since Colin Montgomerie tied for second in 2006, and had he won, he would have been the first Scot to lift The US Open Championship trophy in 100 years; applauds Robert for his excellent sportsmanship upon witnessing JJ Spaun sink the final putt to confirm his victory, and wishes Robert the best of luck for The Open Championship at Royal Portrush in July 2025 as well as the rest of the season.
