The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Sir Billy Connolly on the upcoming Big Yin Weekend, as part of the Glasgow 850 celebrations, which will aim to recognise the life, work and enduring influence of Sir Billy on Glasgow, Scotland and the wider world; considers that the weekend will feature a vibrant mix of activities celebrating his legacy, including the Big Yin Tune-In, which will be a free pop-up musical performance at The Park Bar with Gary Innes & Friends, and the premiere of a new song, Big Yin, by Mànran; notes there will be a comedy showcase, Big Yin’s Best Of, which will be presented by the Glasgow International Comedy Festival, a special screening of the documentary, Big Banana Feet, at the Glasgow Film Theatre, and walking and cycling tours hosted by Gallus Pedals, which have been inspired by Sir Billy’s life and career, and believes that the weekend’s programme will provide Glaswegians and visitors alike with an opportunity to celebrate the humour, music, storytelling and artistry of one of the city’s most beloved cultural icons.
