The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Monklands Replacement Project (MRP) on delivering its third and largest summer school; notes that it provided more than 20 secondary school pupils from North and South Lanarkshire with a week of practical learning in engineering; understands that the programme was based on the design and construction plans for the new University Hospital Monklands, which is set to open in 2031 at Wester Moffat, Airdrie; notes that the summer school was hosted by the environmental building services company, Wallace Whittle, at the MRP Immersive Suite; understands that pupils learned about sustainability, ventilation, heating, water services and digital design tools; believes that more than a dozen Wallace Whittle engineers supported the teaching and mentoring; recognises that, this year, the summer school introduced academic accreditation in partnership with New College Lanarkshire; understands that this will allow pupils to refer to their achievement in future academic or employment applications; notes that the initiative is part of the MRP’s Community Benefits programme, which offers skills training, apprenticeships and job opportunities; understands that this also reflects NHS Lanarkshire’s work as an anchor organisation, helping to support the health, wellbeing and economic prospects of communities; recognises the involvement of education partners, including Developing the Young Workforce in Lanarkshire, principal teachers and school careers advisers; commends the pupils from the 15 participating schools for their hard work and presentations at the end of the week, and applauds everyone involved for aiming to inspire the next generation of engineers in Scotland.
