The motion

That the Parliament recognises that 22 to 28 September 2025 is National Eye Health week; notes that the week is dedicated to promoting the importance of good eye health and regular eye tests for all; understands that over two million people in the UK live with sight loss, and half of this is preventable; further understands that a sight test, which is free in Scotland, can detect early signs of conditions such as glaucoma, and other health conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease; believes that, throughout the week, healthcare professionals and organisations will collaborate to provide information and resources, make people aware of how to look after their eyes and inspire them to take action to protect their vision and prevent avoidable sight loss; commends the work of organisations such as Optometry Scotland in promoting National Eye Health week and eye health more generally, and encourages everyone to book a sight test, every two years or, if advised by their optometrist, more frequently.
