Extreme Concern for Forth Valley College Alloa Campus

The motion

That the Parliament notes with extreme concern the proposed closure of the Forth Valley College Alloa campus; acknowledges what it believes is the deep worry and anxiety of people in the area, many of whom either are employed by the college or have children, friends or relatives who are either current or potential students of the campus, not only for their own security and employment but for their children's, friends’ and relatives’ futures; considers that the college sector in Scotland has been chronically underfunded over a protracted period of time under the current Scottish administration, which, it believes, has led to such a potentially devastating situation as the staff and students, some with additional support needs, now find themselves in through no fault of their own; understands that the college is a vital part of the Clackmannanshire community; believes that colleges are wonderful institutions that act as a community anchor and skills engine for the economy; understands with concern that a skills crisis is looming across colleges in the Mid-Scotland and Fife region; which, according to an Audit Scotland Report,  is having to face a 17% real terms reduction, and implores the Scottish Government to outline what it plans to do to secure the future of the campus with its myriad facilities and retain its students, while maintaining the provision of skills education in the area.
