David Finlay Receives Honorary Fellowship from Scotland's Rural College

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates David Finlay on being awarded an Honorary Fellowshipby Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) at a graduation ceremony at Bute Hall inGlasgow; notes that this was in recognition of what it sees as his pioneeringwork establishing a sustainable dairy system in which calves stay with theirmothers, which promotes better animal welfare and healthier environments;further notes his significant contribution towards this work, along with hislate wife, Wilma, as co-founder of The Ethical Dairy; acknowledges what it seesas his pioneering sustainable practices and integration of renewable energytechnologies that have earned him multiple accolades, including being named theBBC Farmer of the Year in 2006 and the 2025 Holyrood Net Zero Award, and wishesDavid continued success as he contributes to SRUC’s research, education andknowledge exchange efforts, playing what it sees as a vital role in advancingthe college’s strategic vision while strengthening its collaboration work inthe years ahead.
