125th Anniversary of the Steamship Sir Walter Scott

The motion

That the Parliament notes the 125th anniversary of the maiden voyage of the Steamship Sir Walter Scott on Loch Katrine; understands that the occasion was marked by a three-day Steamboat Festival that included a recreation of the steamship’s maiden voyage; notes that Loch Katrine is considered by some to be the birthplace of Scottish tourism and acknowledges the important role this much-loved ship plays in its ongoing popularity; understands that the Steamship Sir Walter Scott is part of a legacy of 180 years of steamships on Loch Katrine; congratulates all those involved, including members of the Steamship Sir Walter Scott Trust and the staff team, who it sees as a vital part of the excellent visitor experience; understands that Loch Katrine has recently been shortlisted in the nature tourism category of the RSPB Nature of Scotland Awards; notes that this was in recognition of its recently built Birthplace of Scottish Tourism Scenic Tower and Lookouts, and commends all involved for what it sees as their valuable contributions to sustainable tourism.
