Highland and Islands Blood Bikes

The motion

That the Parliament praises the important work of Highland and Islands Blood Bikes,which was established in 2019 with the sole aim of couriering vital medicalsupplies and samples free of charge for the NHS; understands that since thegroup was established, it now operates seven days a week and that its main baseis in Inverness, with smaller sites in Oban, Fort William and Wick;acknowledges that the most recent figures show that the group has delivered 563urgent blood samples and made 259 pharmacy deliveries, covering more than117,000 miles; understands that in the last year, it has grown its volunteerbase by 20% and that it has expanded out to cover parts of the Western Islesand northern Highland communities; recognises what it sees as the vital work ofblood bike groups across Scotland, which help to alleviate pressure on the NHSand provide an important service to rural and remote communities, and wishesall staff and volunteers involved with Highland and Islands Blood Bikes thebest for the future.
