World Stroke Day 2025
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that 29 October 2025 marked World Stroke Day; understands that World Stroke Day seeks to raise awareness of stroke, its symptoms and ways people can prevent their risks of having one; notes that Scotland has the highest prevalence of strokes in the United Kingdom, with over 10,000 people having one every year; believes that stroke is the leading cause of adult disability in Scotland and is projected to cost the health and social care services £4.5 billion a year by 2035; commends the work of people with lived experience of stroke and the Stroke Association for their collective efforts to increase awareness of this illness, and joins its calls for stroke services to be given greater priority in Scotland.
