Kilminning Project Wins Nature of Scotland Community Initiative Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Crail Community Partnership, and the community of Crail, on winning the Nature of Scotland Community Initiative Award 2025 for the Kilminning project, at the RSPB Scotland Nature of Scotland Awards; understands that these awards, which are run by the RSPB and NatureScot, recognise outstanding achievements for Scotland’s wildlife and natural environment, and that the Community Initiative prize is the only one of the awards chosen by a public vote; notes that the project involved the transformation of a tarmac-covered brownfield site into a nature reserve, the planting of 4,000 trees and the establishment of a meadow habitat; celebrates the community’s efforts in raising £260,000 for the plans; understands that, while the environment created by the project has continued to develop, in 2025 it has seen the spawning of more than 17,000 tadpoles and the presence of the first cuckoos to breed in the area in more than 50 years; commends the efforts of all who have supported the project, including by supporting the project’s administration, providing advice, carrying out surveys, lending machinery and tools, planting trees and making donations, and congratulates all of the nominees for the awards and the winners of other prizes.
