Rachel Groves Wins BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2026

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Rachel Groves on winning BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2026; notes that the final of the contest, broadcast live on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC ALBA on 1 February, saw six young musicians compete in a performance at Glasgow City Halls; recognises that Rachel grew up in Aberdeenshire and went on to be a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Valencia and the University of Edinburgh; understands that Rachel’s musical style draws from jazz, classical and global folk music, and alongside being a performer, she is a composer, teacher and leader of the Scolty Harp Ensemble in the North East; commends BBC Scotland for showcasing Scotland’s young musical talent; acknowledges the value of the Young Traditional Musician competition, which was established in 2001, in supporting emerging artists; congratulates all the finalists on their performances, and wishes Rachel future success in her career.
