Welcoming Refugee Festival Scotland 2026

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes Refugee Festival Scotland 2026, taking place from 12 to 21 June 2026 in the lead-up to World Refugee Day; recognises the festival as a vibrant, nationwide celebration of art, culture and community, featuring more than 150 events across Scotland and showcasing contributions from artists and participants connected to over 78 countries; acknowledges the important role the festival plays in bringing people together, fostering solidarity, and strengthening connections between communities across the country through music, dance, food, storytelling and shared experiences; notes that 2026 marks 75 years since the UN Refugee Convention, underscoring the continued importance of Scotland's proud history of offering welcome and support to people seeking safety; commends the Scottish Refugee Council for its leadership in organising and delivering Refugee Festival Scotland each year, and congratulates all involved for creating an inclusive programme that celebrates the richness, diversity and resilience of Scotland’s refugee communities and the positive contribution that they make to the nation’s cultural life.
