Success for The Orcadian at the Scottish Press Awards

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Ethan Flett, of The Orcadian, on being named Weekly Journalist of the Year at the 2026 Scottish Press Awards; understands that the annual Scottish Press Awards celebrate excellence in national, regional and digital journalism from across the country; believes that Ethan has shown an outstanding commitment to promoting strong and reliable local journalism, ensuring islanders have access to news and reporting on issues that matter most to them; notes that The Orcadian also took home the title of Scottish Weekly Newsbrand of the Year at the awards, which were held in Glasgow; congratulates Ethan and everyone at The Orcadian on this well-deserved national recognition of the contribution that they make to the local community in Orkney, and wishes them all continued success.
