Tackling Mental Health Stigma with the Wee Pink Dot
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the launch of the Wee Pink Dot challenge from Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH); believes that stigma remains one of the most damaging forces affecting people with mental illness in Edinburgh, Lothians East and across Scotland; understands that even though conversations around mental health and wellbeing have become more mainstream, the reality for those living with mental illness has not improved nearly enough; recognises that stigma does not just hurt feelings, it can also shape lives, limit opportunities, delay access to support and treatment, reduce confidence and restrict rights; understands that the Wee Pink Dot is a reminder to everyone to show up and be visible for people living with mental health problems; supports the call from SAMH for people across Scotland to take part in the wee Pink Dot Challenge, and wishes the charity well with its work to end mental health stigma and discrimination.
