The motion

That the Parliament recognises the immense economic, cultural and environmental importance of Scotland’s seas and coastlines; notes what it sees as the vital contribution that marine industries, particularly Scotland's world-class fishing and aquaculture sectors, alongside tourism, shipping and renewable energy, make to the economy of the Highlands and Islands and coastal communities across Scotland; acknowledges the growing challenges facing marine ecosystems, such as pollution and marine litter; believes that productive, well-managed seas are essential to sustaining local livelihoods, safeguarding national food security and preserving Scotland's maritime heritage; recognises the absolute importance of working in close partnership with fishing communities, industry leaders and scientific experts to achieve the practical management of marine resources, and calls on the Scottish and UK governments to deliver robust support and targeted investment to grow Scotland's fishing fleets and secure a prosperous, long-term future for the coastal communities that depend upon them.
