Keeping Dogs and All Pets Safe During Hot Weather
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges the importance of keeping dogs and other pets safe during periods of hot weather; notes advice that dog owners should consider walking their pets during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening; recognises the importance of ensuring that animals have access to fresh drinking water and adequate shade; highlights the risk of injury from hot pavements and the need to check ground temperatures before exercising dogs; stresses that pets should never be left unattended in vehicles, where temperatures can quickly reach dangerous levels; welcomes the warm weather guidance published by Dogs Trust and other animal welfare organisations; notes that pets may also be vulnerable to sunburn and heatstroke, and encourages pet owners to take appropriate precautions to protect the health and wellbeing of their animals during periods of high temperatures.
