Orkney's Creel Fishery Achieves World-First Certification 

That the Parliament congratulates Orkney’s creel fishery on achieving world-first certification under the Community Catch Standard for Small Scale Fisheries; notes that this certification has been issued following an independent assessment by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), a global certification and assurance body dedicated to public health and product safety, which evaluated the fishery against the Community Catch Standard criteria; understands that Community Catch is a global initiative that empowers responsible small-scale fisheries in gaining market access through an affordable and accessible certification standard; believes that this certification demonstrates a strong standard in responsible sourcing, labour rights, community benefit, and environmental and marine stewardship; considers that this world-first accreditation establishes Orkney as a global leader in sustainable small scale fisheries management; acknowledges the importance of Orkney’s fisheries to the local community, supporting nearly 300 jobs and contributing around £14 million per year to Scotland's economy; commends Alistair Buchan, chief executive of Orkney Fisheries Association, and Paul Knight, owner of Orkney Crab for their work in achieving this accreditation, and wishes them, and all those involved in supporting Orkney's creel fishery, all the best for the future.
