Alcohol Harm Awareness and Support Services in the Highlands and Islands

That the Parliament recognises the significant impact that alcohol misuse continues to have on individuals, families and communities across Scotland, including in the Highlands and Islands; notes that alcohol-related harm remains a major public health challenge despite a recent reduction in alcohol-specific deaths nationally; acknowledges the barriers faced by people living in remote, rural and island communities when accessing treatment, recovery and mental health services; commends the work of frontline organisations, recovery groups, volunteers, NHS staff and third sector providers in supporting those affected by alcohol dependency and addiction; welcomes the development of innovative approaches, including virtual and community-based support services designed to reach people in remote areas; recognises the importance of early intervention, prevention, recovery and family support, and calls on all levels of government, public bodies and community partners to continue working together to reduce alcohol-related harm and ensure that those seeking help can access timely, effective and compassionate support, regardless of where they live.
