Glasgow City Parents Group

That the Parliament recognises the work of the Glasgow City Parents Group in campaigning to safeguard education services for children and young people across Glasgow; notes concerns regarding Glasgow City Council's reported efforts to recover legal costs of approximately £44,000 from members of the group following judicial review proceedings relating to proposed education and teacher cuts; believes that citizens and community groups should be able to raise legitimate concerns about decisions affecting public services; acknowledges the important role that parents, carers and community organisations play in strengthening scrutiny of public decision-making; understands that many families, education professionals and elected representatives have expressed concern that the recovery of these costs could have a chilling effect on public participation, and calls on Glasgow City Council to halt the recovery of legal costs from the Glasgow City Parents Group and to work constructively with parents, carers and education stakeholders to ensure that future decisions affecting education command public confidence and place the interests of children and young people at their heart.
