Business of the House
Lord Strathclyde moved that Standing Order 46 (No two stages of a Bill to be taken on one day) be dispensed with on Tuesday 7 December to allow the Savings Accounts and Health in Pregnancy Grant Bill to be taken through its remaining stages that day. Then Lord McKenzie of Luton moved, as an amendment to the motion, to leave out from “that” to the end and insert “it is desirable that the Savings Accounts and Health in Pregnancy Grant Bill should go through its legislative stages in a timetable which allows this House to scrutinise the provisions of the Bill and allows both Houses to pass the Bill without recourse to enactment under section 1 of the Parliament Act 1911”. The House divided:
The Not Contents have it
Majority 33
At a glance The Not Contents won by a margin of 33 votes. The Government's position was Not Content, and it won.

The party breakdowns are our own analysis of the official voting records (recorded votes only; they do not describe the formal whip). How we work this out.
Peers attend divisions ad hoc, so there is no did-not-vote list. Tellers are counted in the Content and Not Content totals, unlike in the Commons.
Tellers: Lord Bassam of Brighton (Content), Lord Tunnicliffe (Content), Baroness Anelay of St Johns (Not Content), Lord Shutt of Greetland (Not Content).
