Viscount Ridley's amendment to the motion in the name of Baroness Hayter of Kentish Town
Viscount Ridley moved, as an amendment to the motion in the name of Baroness Hayter of Kentish Town, to leave out from first “that” to the end and to insert “the attempt to accelerate procedures on the European Union (Withdrawal) (No.5) Bill is not in accordance with normal practice in either House of Parliament and the provisions of Standing Order 46 (No two stages of a Bill to be taken on one day) should be dispensed with only to the extent necessary to allow the First and Second Readings of the Bill to be taken on one day, the Committee stage on a subsequent day, and the Report and Third Reading to be taken on the same day subsequently.” The House divided:
The Not Contents have it
Majority 119
At a glance The Not Contents won by a margin of 119 votes. The Government's position was Not Content, and it lost. This was not a whipped vote, so no party line applied.

Peers attend divisions ad hoc, so there is no did-not-vote list. Tellers are counted in the Content and Not Content totals, unlike in the Commons.
Tellers: Lord Hamilton of Epsom (Content), Viscount Trenchard (Content), Lord Davies of Oldham (Not Content), Lord Tunnicliffe (Not Content).
