The Peat Landslide Hazard andRisk Assessments guidance will be published on the Executive’s website today. Thewebsite link is as follows <ahref="http://www.scotland.gov.uk/161862">http://www.scotland.gov.uk/161862</a>.</p><p>The publication wasdeveloped in consultation with key stakeholders and provides best practice guidanceon the methods to identify, mitigate and manage peat slide hazards and risks, inrespect of section 36 electricity generation projects.</p><p>Hardcopies of the guidance havebeen placed in the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (Bib. number 41566) andare also available on request from the Scottish Executive Energy Consents Unit,2nd floor, Meridian Court, Glasgow, G2 6AT or by e-mail at <ahref="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a> or telephoneHoward Steele on 0141 242 5795. Vesselsafety and safety at sea issues are matters reserved to the UK Government.</p><p>However, underthe Financial Instrument for Fisheries Guidance (FIFG) programme, the Executiveis promoting safety at sea for fishermen by providing grant aid to fund safetytraining and to assist with the costs of purchasing safety equipment.</p><p>A total ofalmost £1 million has been awarded to the Sea Fish Industry Authority todeliver safety training to the fisheries sector and we are making fundingavailable to help with the costs of purchasing and fitting “Man OverboardGuardian” devices.</p>

One of the key priorities of the Executive’s national drugs strategy is to ensure young people are aware of therisks of drug taking and of the benefits of a positive and healthy lifestyle. Educationis absolutely central to that. All schoolsin Scotland now provide drug education, and we are specifically targetingyoung people through our Know the Score drugs information campaign.</p>

The review is currently underway. The review group is holding its first meeting today, with a membership assembled from relevant interests. The group is chaired by Mr Robert Brodie CB, and its remit is:</p><p>“To review the Cremation Acts of 1902 and 1952 (and the Cremation (Scotland) Regulations 1935, as amended) and the Burial Grounds (Scotland) Act 1855 as amended, and to make recommendations on how the legislation could be changed in order to better serve the needs of the people of Scotland. This would, where appropriate, recognise the established role of the Procurator Fiscal Service, and take account of policy developments in England (specifically the Shipman Inquiry’s work on death certification) and international good practice.”</p>
