Make online hate crimes a punishable criminal offence.

Rejected 13 signatures

What the petition asks

The moment someone commits a hate crime online it should be punishable by law.
A hate crime online or in person is done with intent and a keyboard shouldn't allow an individual to receive a more lenient punishment. Punishment for these disgusting acts needs to be stricter.
As a nation we still feel it our right to abuse others be it physically, verbally or mentally.
If we tolerate this in 2021 how will life be in 20 years? We need to finally make real change now for a brighter future for what is a multicultural country.

Why it was rejected

The UK Government or Parliament was already taking the action it asked for.

There are already a number of offences that cover online abuse. You can read about these here: https://www.cps.gov.uk/legal-guidance/social-media-guidelines-prosecuting-cases-involving-communications-sent-social-media
