ESU Scotland Juniors Debating Final
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Dollar Academy, The High School of Dundee, Newcastle Royal Grammar School and Dumfries Academy for reaching the English-Speaking Union (ESU) Scotland Juniors Debating Final from the 88 entering teams; believes that there are many skills to be gained from encouraging debating in schools, including written and oral communication, deduction, reasoning, logic, quick thinking, humour, self-discipline and humility; considers that the high level of participation is very encouraging for the future of school debating in Scotland, and congratulates Dollar Academy on a hard fought victory and, indeed, all teams for a lively, enjoyable and informative final debate on the motion, “This House believes that America has turned its dream into a nightmare,” at the Parliament on Saturday 3 June 2006.
