The motion

That the Parliament commends all organisations involved in supporting people who develop and live with back pain, including BackCare which organises the annual health awareness campaign to ensure that the nation has healthy backs; recognises that two out of five adults will develop back pain in the next twelve months, costing businesses money in terms of days lost off work and costing the NHS a large portion of its budget for prescription painkillers and often for anti-depressants; further recognises that some sufferers may require to be reassessed by chronic pain clinicians; encourages employers to complete display screen equipment (DSE) checks on computer equipment and chairs for users who can frequently develop back complaints, and encourages everyone to develop and maintain good posture at all times to alleviate potential future back problems.
