I Don’t Like Cricket (Oh No), I Love It!
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges the importance of cricket as one of Scotland’s fastest-growing team sports; further notes cricket’s proud history in Scotland, which dates back as far as the 1780s; further notes the rising profile of the Scottish international cricket team, which played its first match in 1865, beating Surrey by 172 runs, and became an associate member of the International Cricket Council in 1994; acknowledges the importance of encouraging young people to get involved in sport including cricket, both in terms of promoting healthy living and ensuring Scotland’s continued sporting success; further acknowledges the vital role that the media has to play in promoting sport and the importance of television coverage of elite-level team sport to that function; welcomes the continued success and growth of cricket in Scotland, and encourages young people to get involved in all forms of team sport.
