The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the universities of Edinburgh and Strathclyde on winning a substantial grant under the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Energy and Communities collaborative venture, which is part of the ESRC Energy Research Programme; considers that the research is an important example of innovative multi-disciplinary collaboration and is one of only seven successful bids out of 80 for a share of the £7.5 million available; further notes that the four-year Heat and the City project aims to contribute significantly to the knowledge of sustainable low-carbon and heat systems in northern European cities and, through this, to improving Scotland’s performance and chances of meeting its climate change targets, and wishes all success to the project team of Professor Jan Webb, with University of Edinburgh colleagues Dr David Hawkey, Research Fellow, Professor David McCrone from the Institute of Governance, Dr Stewart Russell from the Institute for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Andy Kerr from the Scottish Alliance for Geosciences, Environment and Society, Dr Heather Lovell from the School of Geosciences and Dr Mark Winskel from the Institute for Energy Systems and Mr Richard Bellingham from the Fraser of Allander Institute, University of Strathclyde.
