The Fife Bench
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the work of Fife Bench, a Fife Housing Association Alliance project, which has been created by the public art company, PACE, with help from local residents in Fife; considers that this represents an excellent example of community engagement, employability and local resource utilisation; notes that two artists, Chris Eckersley and William Warren, were chosen to design a bench for Fife; further notes that the Fife Bench is being designed for places where people might like to sit in Inverkeithing, Glenrothes, Buckhaven, Lochgelly and Dunfermline; recognises the input to the project of primary seven pupils of Tanshall Primary School in Glenrothes, the Fizzy Milk youth arts group in Inverkeithing, the Women’s Art and Craft group in Lochgelly, volunteers from the Abbeyview Forum in Dunfermline and volunteers from Clear, Buckhaven’s local environment group; also recognises the involvement of students from Adam Smith College studying furniture design and construction; welcomes the sourcing of local materials to produce this art project; celebrates the final design, which is based on a colourful tartan picnic blanket translated into metal for permanence, which it considers floats as if whipped up by a breeze from the Firth of Forth; looks forward to visiting the bench in its initial five locations across Fife, and wishes the project every success in bringing more Fife benches to the community in the future.
