The Magnum, Irvine
The motion
That the Parliament believes that the Magnum Leisure Centre in Irvine is a popular venue for people wanting to participate in fitness and leisure activities such as theatre, swimming, indoor bowling, badminton, table tennis, football, basketball, squash and using the gym, sauna and steam cabin facilities; notes North Ayrshire Council’s plan to build a new development in the heart of Irvine that, it understands, will offer fewer activities and less space than the Magnum centre; further notes the reported concerns and anger of residents who feel that the council has failed to listen to their views and that this is undermining local democracy; considers that the council should acknowledge what it also sees as considerable public concern regarding the proposed development’s impact on traffic congestion and further pressures on parking in the centre of the town; notes what it sees as the local desire to maintain the Magnum centre, and encourages the council to listen to and engage with the population.
