Lodged by Marco Biagi Standard Motion 16 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament is concerned at the appointment of Philip Hammond as Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs; understands that part of Mr Hammond’s role as secretary of state is to promote LGBT rights abroad; is concerned that Mr Hammond has been a long-term opponent of LGBT equality; understands that he voted against the introduction of civil partnerships, the equalisation of the age of consent, the repeal of Section 28 and allowing same-sex couples to adopt, and concludes that the Prime Minister has not taken what it considers Mr Hammond’s worrying past record on LGBT equality into consideration when making this appointment and shows a lack of desire and commitment to ensure that the UK is at the forefront of promoting LGBT rights and equality abroad.
