Student Residences and Affordable Housing
The motion
That the Parliament notes Edinburgh Housing Policy 7, which requires residential developments consisting of 12 or more units to include affordable housing equivalent to 25% of the development; understands that this policy has not been applied to purpose-built student accommodation; notes the debate about the provision of affordable housing in the south side of Edinburgh and elsewhere; believes that private-sector, purpose-built student accommodation is clearly residential in its nature and that requiring such developers to build or fund affordable housing would ensure a sustainable housing mix among new supply, and notes the view that housing policy generally should support everyone in accessing high-quality affordable homes.
