Reawakening of Grassroots Political Engagement
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the Scottish Greens on what it believes to be the party’s largest-ever conference on 11 and 12 October 2014; wishes the Scottish Socialist Party similar success with its conference on 25 October 2014; congratulates the Scottish National Party on selling out the 12,000-seat SSE Hydro for its meeting on 22 November; understands that all three of these parties have more than trebled their membership since 18 September 2014; believes that these events reflect a reawakening of the Scottish people’s interest and faith in political involvement; believes that this is in part a consequence of these three parties demonstrating willingness and ability to cooperate across party lines and hopes that such cooperation will continue; hopes that a great many of the Scottish people will continue the recent upsurge in public engagement by contributing their views to the Smith Commission, and believes that this era of grassroots democracy will prove to be the lasting legacy of the 2014 independence referendum.
