Seabury Mass
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the contribution by the clergy and congregation of St Andrew’s Cathedral in Aberdeen to the life of the city as the cathedral celebrates its centenary; welcomes what it considers the success of the Diocesan Seabury Mass held at the cathedral on 14 November 2014 as the culmination of the centenary celebrations at which the Seabury Mass composed by Professor Paul Mealor was first performed; notes that the mass took place on the 230th anniversary of the consecration in Aberdeen of Samuel Seabury, the first Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America, and the importance of this ongoing relationship was marked by the installation of Canon Michel Belt from the Diocese of Connecticut as an honorary canon along with the installation of Canon Lisa Eunson from St Ternan’s in Banchory; further notes that Paul Mealor’s Seabury Mass is dedicated to the Very Reverend Richard Kilgour, Provost of the Cathedral, and to Professor Andrew Morrisson, organist and master of the choristers, and understands that the mass has been so well received that all copies have sold out prior to its official publication, and congratulates the Very Reverend Richard Kilgour on his service to the cathedral and the city as he prepares to demit office later this year.
